Jamahal Hill can’t seem to catch a break these days as the former UFC light heavyweight champion was booed in his own hometown of Chicago, Illinois, during UFC 319’s Q&A session on Friday.
It’s no secret that Hill has struggled inside of the Octagon over the past few years. The former UFC light heavyweight king is 0-3 in his last three trips to the cage and has lost two of those fights by vicious knockout. Hill has made some excuses along the way and never really seems to accept his defeats, which has created a weird tension between himself and fight fans.
On Friday, Hill joined a few other select UFC fighters on stage for a UFC 319 Q&A with fans from the Chicago area. You would think Hill would have been showered with applause and support from his own hometown, but instead “Sweet Dreams” was surprisingly hit with boos and some trash talk.
“It’s always great to come back to Chicago, come back to my hometown,” said Hill as some boos started to echo out of the crowd.
“It’s actually kind of weird that people here boo,” said Hill after taking in the crowd noise. “Y’all know y’all come from the same place I’m from, right? Where are y’all at? Where are you at right now? Because you see where I’m at.”
Hill was later challenged by a fan who called out his recent misfortunes inside of the Octagon.
“You can’t win a f—king fight,” screamed a fan from deep in the crowd.
“Maybe your girl will look at you the way she’s looking at me right now one day,” responded Hill.
The backlash Hill received is pretty underserving, but it’s still a sign of where he is right now with some select fight fans. “Sweet Dreams” will have to prove his mettle once again the next time he steps inside of the cage and get back in the good graces of those who pay to see him fight.
