Amanda Nunes is ready to make her UFC comeback.
But until UFC CEO Dana White makes the call, “Lioness” can only continue training at her “private” new gym in Sunrise, Fla., thrown together after the Brazilian departed American Top Team to avoid any conflict with former PFL champion, Kayla Harrison.
Harrison captured the UFC bantamweight title by submitting Julianna Pena at UFC 316, setting up a Nunes super fight at some point later this year.
“I’m ready for UFC,” Nunes revealed during the DBX 2 event last weekend in Florida. “Talk to Dana, see what is next, when is the date.”
“It looked like I never left,” Nunes said about her UFC 316 staredown with Harrison. “I’m ready to go: body, spirit, mind. I’m back. I have my own place since I left American Top Team awhile ago. A private place in Sunrise. Gonna take my belt back, go get it — what is mine.”
Privacy has been on the menu since early 2022.
When and where Nunes makes her championship comeback largely depends on how soon the promotion can get “Lioness” back into the DFSI testing pool. The best case scenario would be late November or early December, assuming anyone still cares.
White does, which is all that matters.
“Nunes walked away as champ and she returns as champ,” former UFC light heavyweight champion, Luke Rockhold, said on Jaxxon Podcast. “She still is the champ. [Harrison] is the interim champ. This is an interim championship considering she’s back. She was No. 1 when she left and she’s still No. 1 now.”
The sportsbooks disagree.
