There are “levels” when it comes to fighting … especially when it comes to highly-trained Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)-calibre face punchers.
Come on, admit it — you’ve probably imagined or even quipped, “I could beat him/her” while kicking back with friends and watching fights. Maybe you were drunk enough to believe it, but let’s face it: even the least experienced cage fighter on UFC’s roster would wipe the floor with you.
It is what it is.
With UFC 314’s massive pay-per-view (PPV) event hitting Kaseya Center in Miami, Fla., this weekend (Sat., April 12, 2025), the fighters on the card (see it here) were asked how long an Average Joe would last in a real UFC scrap.
Here’s what they said:
- Paddy Pimblett: “30 seconds, tops.”
- Alexander Volkanovski: “Inside a minute.”
- Michael Chandler: “I’d say a minute.”
- Jim Miller: “Someone dead-set on defending themselves and not swinging might hang in a bit longer.”
- Patricio Pitbull: “Against a guy like Michael Chandler? One minute.”
- Diego Lopes: “Maybe a minute, or a minute thirty.”
- Yair Rodriguez: “Bro, once we touch you, it’s 10 seconds.”
- Jean Silva: “30 seconds is plenty.”
Clearly, UFC 314’s crew thinks the average human would be toast … fast.
That said, if you channel your inner Kalib Starnes and just run for it, you might stretch it to three minutes. Or, you could pull a Katie Castro and be done in a flash (watch video below).
For now, stick to your couch and enjoy these modern-day gladiators beating the crap out of each other (literally) for our amusement.
Stick to the crowd … it’s much safer?
