That was fast! A day after Saudi boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh announced that Tyson Fury was ready to make a comeback, “The Gypsy King” has announced a date and opponent for his return.
“April 18, 2026, Wembley Stadium,” Fury posted on Instagram above a picture of himself and Olyksandr Usyk. “The trilogy! UK! Contact Spencer Brown, Goldstar Promotions for tickets.”
The boxing world is always more interesting with Tyson Fury in it than out, but most people are going to be disappointed that we’ll be seeing a third Usyk fight instead of the Anthony Joshua bout we’ve been waiting years for. Fury is currently down 0-2 against Usyk, who has been too fast and slick for the British heavyweight to handle.
Fury blames the losses on unfair judging in Saudi Arabia, and is hoping a little hometown magic will push him over the top in the April trilogy fight.
“I want me revenge in England,” he told Pro Boxing Fans in Turkey before making the April date announcement. “That’s all I want. I want a fair shout, and I don’t believe I’ve got a fair shout the last two times. So I don’t know what I’m going to have to do because I can’t leave it go to a decision, I’m gonna have to knock the c—t out.”
The silver lining is that Fury is finally paying some lip service to fighting Joshua, and recognizes leaving that one undone would be a disservice to the fans and sport.
“Usyk’s the one I want, but if I don’t get that, then it’d be Joshua, the biggest British fight that’ll ever happen,” he said. “And it would break all records, and it would sell out 100,000 at Wembley in an hour, and it’s a fight that I think can happen for sure if I decide to come back and the deal’s right and all the other s—t that goes with it.”
While Fury is already gearing up for Usyk, Usyk will have to get past Daniel Dubois for the second time on July 19th. A stumble could derail this whole thing: Dubois winning would activate a rematch clause in Usyk’s contract, making an April 2026 date unlikely.
