How does Sedriques Dumas still have a UFC career?
“The Reaper” returned last night (Sat., Nov. 1, 2025) early on the “Prelims” of UFC Vegas 110 opposite newcomer Donte Johnson as a three-to-one underdog. Aside from a single takedown in the opening seconds, he accomplished pretty much nothing offensive. Even from top position, he only held onto a cradle for a minute or two until Johnson escaped. Once back on the feet, Dumas threw a bunch of terrible spinning backfists that saw him trip all over his own feet. Then, he was taken down, gave up a guillotine choke, and tapped without even trying to fight hands.
This very amateurish performance dropped his overall UFC record to 3-4 (1). He’s winless in three bouts, getting finished twice legally and a third time via 51-second dick kick “No Contest.” His promotional career started off average enough (2-2 against okay competition), but he’s gotten worse in recent fights. All of his UFC wins came via decision, and all of his losses came via stoppage.
Just looking at the stats alone, there’s no reason for the 30-year-old to be taking up space on the UFC roster.
Back in the FOX era, UFC was implementing an athlete Code of Conduct and generally trying to prove to the world that fighters were productive members of society. Now, there isn’t a care in the world that a decidedly subpar Middleweight is a career criminal. Has the sport really fallen so far that Dumas has become some necessary cog in the promotional machine that cannot be replaced?
Better fighters have been cut for a lot less. Dumas’ employment leading up to UFC Vegas 110 was baffling, and any continuation would be utterly inexplicable.
