The wife and three year-old son of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) top Welterweight title contender, Shavkat Rakhmonov, survived a tragic car accident in Kazakhstan last Sun. (July 27, 2025) that claimed two lives, according to a report by Kazakh news outlet Kursiv.

Rakhmonov’s manager, Daniel Rubenstein, confirmed the tragic incident to MMA Fighting.

Kursiv reported that Rakhmonov’s wife and son sustained “closed craniocerebral injuries and cerebral contusions” in the crash. Both were admitted to a hospital trauma unit for treatment but have since been discharged and are recovering.

According to the Kursiv report, the accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser 200, traveling from the Karagandy region toward Almaty, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

Tragically, two passengers identified as close friends of Rakhmonov’s wife, did not survive the accident. Their identities have not been publicly disclosed out of respect for their families.

Rakhmonov (19-0) has been out of action since his unanimous decision victory over Ian Garry at UFC 310. The undefeated title contender has been dealing with a slew of injuries (including a surgically-repaired knee) that has left him sidelined for the remainder of 2025.
