Following UFC Rio last night (Sat., Oct. 11, 2025) inside Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, three fighters were transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons, UFC officials confirmed to MMAmania.com.
The three names are: Vicente Luque, Thomas Petersen and Saimon Oliveira.
Luque (23-12-1) was sent for a precautionary CT scan of his head and face after his unanimous decision loss to Joel Alvarez in the UFC Rio “Featured” fight. “The Silent Assassin” has now dropped two straight bouts for the second time inside the Octagon.
For what it’s worth, Luque entered as a +425 underdog, and while he endured a rough second round, he managed to survive the full 15 minutes — mainly because Alvarez opted to control him on the mat in the final frame.
Petersen (10-4) was also transported for a precautionary CT scan after being brutally face-planted by Vitor Petrino on the “Prelims” portion of the card (watch highlights). The Heavyweight has now alternated wins and losses since earning a UFC contract on Contender Series and sits at 2-3 in the promotion, with two knockout defeats.
Oliveira (18-7), who opened the card, was sent for an X-ray of his arm following an armbar submission loss to Luan Lacerda (watch highlights). The Brazilian made headlines before the event for missing weight by a staggering eight pounds, yet was still cleared to compete. The 34-year-old is still winless (0-4) inside the promotion and may receive his release in the coming days.
The results of the medical tests are currently unknown. It’s worth noting that it is not uncommon for UFC fighters to be transported to the hospital as a precaution, especially after knockouts or three-round wars with sustained damage.
