Ryan Garcia may have accepted his upset loss to Rolly Romero on Friday night at “Fatal Fury” from Times Square, New York, but that didn’t stop “King Ry” from breaking down in tears after the DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast ended.
While Garcia was returning from a one-year suspension due to multiple failed drug tests for his fight against Devin Haney back in April 2024, fight fans still expected the same old “King Ry” to show up on Friday night. After all, Garcia looked like a world beater against Haney and was a sizeable betting favorite against Romero, who always seems to come up short when the lights are brightest.
Unfortunately for Garcia, he wasn’t able to find his rhythm at all. When he opened up in the second round Romero caught him with a nasty left hook for the only knockdown of the fight. It was the biggest moment of their main event clash and ultimately prevented Garcia from throwing anything else of major significance. All in all, it was a pretty lackluster performance by both boxers, but especially for Garcia who had major plans after this weekend.
After the decision was handed out Garcia congratulated Romero and delivered a classy post-fight interview inside of the ring. Garcia is usually unpredictable, but he certainly held it together in that moment. However, “King Ry” couldn’t hold his emotions in after the broadcast ended and he was recovering in the back of a sprinter van on the streets of New York. It was a brief clip, but Garcia was seen crying and shaking his head in disbelief that he had just lost his boxing return to Romero.
