Top-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight contender, Tatsuro Taira, returned to the win column with a dominant second round submission over Hyun Sung Park at UFC Vegas 108 last night (Sat., Aug. 2, 2025) inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada (watch highlights).
Following his big win, Taira — who now has a new nickname, “The Best” — called for a title fight during his in-cage interview with Michael Bisping.
“From the last Brandon Royval fight, it’s been 10 months, and I’m back strong,” Taira said through a translator. “Is it Pantoja? Is it Joshua Van? I want that. I want the winner.”
Bisping tempered the callout, suggesting Taira might need one more fight (later suggesting Brandon Moreno, who was on UFC’s Spanish broadcast).
Taira, however, stood firm.
“Yeah, uh, haha — my coaches are saying Pantoja, Pantoja, Pantoja,” Taira said with a laugh.
The Japanese fighter doubled down at UFC Vegas 108’s post-fight press conference (watch here) when asked about the reason(s) he deserves the next 125-pound title shot.
“I can say 100 percent, my skill is higher than the champion,” Taira said.
Given the Flyweight division’s landscape — where Alexandre Pantoja has defeated most top contenders (twice) — a title shot for the 25-year-old isn’t unthinkable.
Still, Taira will likely need another fight. A matchup with Moreno, a former two-time champion, would bolster his resume significantly.
Alternatively, he could face fellow Japanese fighter Kyoji Horiguchi, who has re-signed with the promotion and needs a fight.
Whatever happens, just get “The Best” in front of real fans next.
