Expect a mean “King of Rio.”
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, returns to action, putting his No. 11 ranking on the line against Canada’s Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 this weekend (Sat., May 10, 2025) inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The last time Aldo was in action, he lost a lackluster split decision to Mario Bautista at UFC 307. Frustrated with his performance, he was furious with himself.
“I mean, that’s just not what I’m here for — I’m paid to fight, I’m paid to go through people,” Aldo told ESPN MMA. “I know how aggressive I can be, and I just didn’t deliver that night. I didn’t want to watch fights for quite some time. I didn’t want to even deal with fights…. I was not happy about that. I was pissed off about that fight.”
Now, the UFC legend’s got his fire back and is ready to turn back the clock. He’s got a message for the entire Bantamweight division, too: watch out.
“I know what I can do, and I’ll tell you what,” Aldo said. “They need to be worried about Jose Aldo. They’re the ones who are going to face me. I want them to lose sleep over the fact that they’re facing me. I don’t have to worry about them. They know what I can do.
“No matter where the fight goes — standing or on the ground — I’m going to perform at my best,” Aldo added. “They’re the ones who are going to lose sleep over it. Listen, I want this. You want this. The media wants this. All the fans want me to be me, and they want me to go out there and fight.
“I don’t care about my opponent, I don’t care what they can do,” Aldo concluded. “I was pissed off about the last fight because we go out there, we deliver, we train, we work hard, and we know our abilities. We’re going to take the fight to people. That’s what I’m here for.”
If Aldo performs as he did against Jonathan Martinez, Zahabi might be in for a rude awakening. However, veteran fighters who talk a big game often fall short afterward.
