The best fight on UFC 315 is no more.

Multiple reports over the weekend confirmed that the all-action Lightweight clash between No. 13-ranked Benoit Saint-Denis andrising Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight, Joel Alvarez, will not take place at this weekend’s pay-per-view (PPV) event in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

And earlier on Sunday, Alvarez verified the news via Instagram.

“Hey there, everyone,” Alvarez wrote. “I’m out of my fight at UFC 315 due to a hand injury that [left] me unable to start punching for 3 weeks. There are many factors that are not in our hands and we cannot control. Camp had been perfect so far.

“We will be back this year, reformed and with a different focus,” he finished. “Thank you very much to everyone, always for the support, you are the best.”

The loss of Alvarez vs. Saint-Denis is a huge blow for the card — the 155-pound showdown promised explosive action. Both fighters boast 100 percent finish rates, with a combined 26 submissions and nine knockouts.

It remains unclear whether Saint-Denis will stay on the card, but updates are expected very soon.

Meanwhile. two talented Lightweight contenders have stepped forward to replace Alvarez versus Saint-Denis: Mauricio Ruffy, fresh off a stunning knockout of Bobby Green, and Mateusz Rebecki, inactive since his “Fight of the Year” contender against Myktybek Orolbai back in Oct. 2024.
