Surprise! 26-fight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran,Brad Tavares, is back in business.
Last week, Tavares was removed from UFC’s active roster, one win short of breaking Michael Bisping’s record for most UFC wins in the Middleweight division (both are tied at 19). On the Still Friends Show recently, Tavares revealed he has re-signed with his long-time promotion.
“So, my last fight was the last one on my previous contract, so that contract expired,” Tavares said. “Bro, funny enough, I don’t know what it is — it might be some AI-type stuff — but they are on it because my contract expired, and boom, I was removed from the roster [immediately]. Anyway, I was in the midst of negotiating my new contract, which I signed. That’s when all the news came out, and it was funny to me.
“It’s the chance you take, right?” he continued. “If I had underperformed or lost my last fight, 100 percent it would have been my last one. It’s been like that my whole career. That third or fifth fight, depending on the contract, you always want to show up and show out because that’s the one you’re going to negotiate off of. If you come off a loss, it’s hard to negotiate. At the end of the day, it’s a business.
“God is good,” Tavares concluded. “UFC has always been great to me, and they gave me another contract. Now I can go out there to chase and hold the record myself.”
Tavares (21-10) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Gerald Meerschaert, though he has alternated wins and losses in his last seven fights.
