Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Let’s start the night off by taking look back over the three biggest stories of Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

  1. Rumor: Tom Aspinall is fighting Ciryl Gane this summer, not Jon Jones: I don’t believe Chael Sonnen as far as I can throw him, but there’s no way Jones’ reputation survives not fighting Tom Aspinall after all this build up, and “Bones” knows it. He’ll take the fight if UFC pays him to do it …
  2. Mark Hunt loses lawsuit against Dana White/UFC/Brock Lesnar (again): It saddens me to think how much money Hunt has probably lost in this ordeal.
  3. Laura Sanko awarded BJJ black belt after 19 years of training: Sanko is legit! As a 16-year grappler still hoping to someday get his black belt, she’s also inspiring.

Insomnia

The clips I saw of Caio Borralho and Khamzat’s training sessions showed Borralho starting in defensive grappling positions, which supports his argument here. Anything less than a full sparring match is hard to take too seriously, and even then, there are limitations in training that make a real fight very different.

All of this is to say: it only counts under the bright lights!

Despite winning the split-decision in his last appearance, Caolan Loughran has been shown the door.

Nazim Sadykhov announces his UFC Baku bout versus Nikolas Motta.

Craig Jones naming his imaginary grappling tv show opposite Gordon Ryan TUG is perfectly on brand.

Signing up for a BKFC match is signing up for a nearly guaranteed destroyed face. Respect to the combatants!

Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping ending up good buddies is a rare wholesome ending to an MMA rivalry.

“The Crotchet Boss” Maurice Greene is coming to theaters near you.

Slips, rips, and KO clips

Getting into a street fight with a random in Thailand is already a bad idea, let alone a local bouncer.

Yuki Yoza in One Championship is going to be so much fun (if they give him fights).

Proper distance is vital when trying to blast a powerful kick with no setup punches.

Random Land

I actually enjoyed the detailed reply (included below) more than the video itself here.
