Floyd Mayweather Jr. will return to action sometime in 2026 against none other than former Heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, in a head-scratching exhibition bout that has many combat fans and experts absolutely bewildered.
With the 48-year-old former pound-for-pound great returning to the ring, many are now wondering if “Money” would ever put the gloves on for an official bout that would put his covered undefeated professional record (50-0) at risk.
And according to Mayweather Jr, it’s a very real possibility.
“There has been talks — it is possible,“ Mayweather said in a recent conversation with TMZ Sports. The former WBA (Unified), WBC and The Ring Welterweight title holder went on to say to say it’s not off the table because he feels good at his age.
“Not at all — I feel good, and working hard each and every day,” he added. “I cannot wait until 2026.”
Mayweather has not competed in an official fight since defeating former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) “champ-champ,” Conor McGregor, via tenth round technical knockout back in 2017 (more on that here). Since then, however, “Money” has taken part in several exhibition bouts, including facing (and defeating) Logan Paul in 2021, with his most recent bout taking place in 2024 against John Gotti III (replay here).
Recently, one of Mayweather’s past rivals, Manny Pacquiao, returned to the ring at the age of 46 following a four-year layoff to battle WBC Welterweight champion, Mario Barrios, resulting in a majority draw. Since “Pacman” proved that age is nothing but a number, is there any reason to believe Mayweather can’t come back and secure a win in a legit sanctioned bout?
