Can’t stop, won’t stop.
Ian Machado Garry is being real nice to Jack Della Maddalena during UFC 315 fight week in Montreal, but the Irish fighter has made it no secret he’s hoping the Australian falls out of his title fight against Belal Muhammad.
Crystal clear.
Garry is the official backup option for “Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena” after winning a tough fight against Carlos Prates just two weeks ago. And while many fighters would say they’re ready to step in, “The Future” is actively trying to sabotage Jack Della’s weight cut (in a joking way) so he can backdoor his way into UFC 315’s pay-per-view (PPV) main event.
Garry shared video of him looking up Della Maddalena’s favorite snacks and sending his son Leo to deliver a giant bag of peanut M&Ms to the welterweight contender. Jack takes it all in good humor, high-fiving Leo before putting the M&Ms away for, we assume, after his weight cut.
As it stands, it doesn’t look like Garry’s services as a backup are needed. But, he made a point of underscoring the reason(s) he deserved the next title shot against whoever leaves UFC 315 with the belt.
“You’ve got Joaquin Buckley acting like a f—ing fool,” Garry told Full Send MMA. “He’s desperate. He’s mentioned my name at every single possibility he can because he knows no one cares about him. But, when he mentions my name, they care.
“Sean Brady as well, boring,” Garry added. “No one really cares about him. No one really wants to watch him fight. Half the stadium was empty when him and Leon fought. They don’t care about him.”
And then there’s the fact that Garry has stepped in on late notice against Shavkat Rakhmonov and the aforementioned Prates, losing a close decision to Shavkat and toppling the highly-touted Prates.
“At the end of the day, I’m still taking fights on short notice against the most dangerous guys in the division,” he said.
We’ll see if that makes the difference when it comes to title contendership when the dust settles in “The Great White North.” Because there are so many ways this can go.
