No. 4-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Women’s Flyweight Erin Blanchfield did not get the chance to compete in her second main event at UFC Vegas 107 last night (Sat., May 31, 2025) as her opponent, Maycee Barber, pulled out minutes before the fight was supposed to take place due to “medial issues.”
Barber was transported to the hospital.
Blanchfield, visibly confused, addressed the media moments after learning she wouldn’t compete, grappling with the surreal turn of events.
“I’m still in pretty much disbelief right now. I feel like I was in disbelief yesterday when she missed weight because we knew about this fight since January,” Blanchfield told MMAMania.com. “So she missed weight, then she gets to Saturday. She gets to the locker room. I’m fully ready to go. She’s supposed to be ready to go. Supposedly, now she has all these health issues right when we’re supposed to fight. I think it’s pretty crazy. I think it’s pretty unprofessional. I wouldn’t want to fight her again.”
Bad blood fueled the matchup, with Barber labeling Blanchfield a “boring” fighter with a “terrible style,” while Blanchfield doubted Barber would even show up, citing their canceled 2021 bout and last year’s UFC Denver debacle.
Living up to her “Cold Blooded” moniker, Blanchfield didn’t hold back when asked if she had advice for Barber, who once boasted she’d be the UFC’s youngest champion.
“Yeah, I don’t know if she needs to look at another division,” Blanchfield said. “She needs to fix her life. She just needs to fix herself. I think she’s a complete mess in every aspect of her entire life.”
Adding insult to injury, UFC Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko was cageside, scouting a possible next challenger. A standout win could have cemented Blanchfield as the top contender.
“This fight was a possible contender fight,” Blanchfield said. “Valentina knows that. She wants to come watch her future competition. I was ready to really put on a show tonight. It definitely leaves me in a little bit of a weird place. I know there are other girls in the top five that I could fight. I guess we’ll just have to go back and reassess.”
A clash with the surging recently victorious Natalia Silva could be next for the No. 4 contender.
