Count Conor McGregor in for next year’s 4th of July UFC event on the White House lawn.
If you’ve been too busy at the BBQ and / or lake to see this, U.S. president Donald Trump promised to feature “a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20 or 25 thousand people,” during the 250th anniversary of America on July 4th, 2026.
No firm details have been announced yet — is this a full event? Is this a single fight? But if it’s a single fight, we’ve got one half of the matchmaking sorted with Conor McGregor.
“Happy 4th of July, USA,” McGregor wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honored! Count me in!”

He then shared an image of a voice chat he sent to Dana White, seemingly about participating in the White House event.
“I LOVE IT!!!!” White replied in all caps.
McGregor hasn’t fought in four years, and has spent the last several months focusing on a non-viable run for president of Ireland. But as a friend of President Trump who was feted by the administration during a St. Patrick’s Day visit earlier this year, we’re sure he’d get approval from “The Donald” to participate.
Is “The Notorious” serious about getting back in the gym and preparing for a proper fight? McGregor pays a lot of lip service to the idea of fighting, but the closest he got to competing was a June 2024 fight at UFC 303 that he withdrew from over a broken pinky toe. The bout was mysteriously never rebooked.
Now we have McGregor sending voice mails to Dana White at 3 a.m. Ireland time calling for a fight. We’d wait a few weeks to see if the enthusiasm for this idea carries into anything resembling actual dedication to a comeback before getting too excited for next July.
