CM Punk will be back cageside this weekend when the WWE superstar and former UFC fighter makes an appearance at UFC 319’s PPV event from inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Punk, who is born and bred in Chicago, is one of the most respected and well-known professional wrestlers in the world today. The WWE standout also made a run as a professional mixed martial artist with UFC back in 2016-2018, but things did not turn out as planned.
After getting submitted by Mickey Gall in his MMA debut back at UFC 203 in 2016, Punk decided to give it one more go and scheduled a fight with part-time fighter Mike Jackson at UFC 225 back in 2018. That event took place inside the United Center in Chicago and was expected to be a showcase fight for Punk in front of his hometown crowd. Unfortunately, Punk was defeated via unanimous decision, even though Jackson’s win was later overturned after he tested positive for marijuana.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Punk is expected to make an appearance at UFC 319 and watch the action closely. It’s unknown at this time if the UFC fanbase (even the ones who live in Chi-Town) will cheer or boo the WWE superstar. We’ll have to wait and see.
UFC 319 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between reigning UFC champion Dricus du Plessis and undefeated challenger Khamzat Chimaev. The stacked card will also feature notable matchups such as Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico, Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates, Jared Cannonier vs. Michael Page, and the UFC debut of recent Contender Series star, Baysangur Susurkaev.
