Things are getting worse for “Baby Jay”.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight championB.J. Penn was recently arrested for “abuse of family or household member: offensive physical contact” and was later released on $2,000 bail and it all stems from Penn’s very troubling behavior towards his mother, Lorraine Shin, in which he has accused her of being impostor as he believes the Hawiian government has murdered her.
Shin has filed for a restraining order against her son for the abuse, and now details have come out about Penn, thanks to Shin’s statement provided to authorities, which MMAFighting has obtained.
Shin told authorities that Penn has engaged in “extreme psychological abuse towards me for over the past several months, that I am not Lorraine Shin, I killed his family and have taken over his mother’s identity, and he wants me to be removed from his home.”
According to MMAFighting, Shin returned home on May 11 to find her personal belongings—including clothes, jewelry, shoes, and her bed—removed from her bedroom. When she confronted Penn, he reportedly denied knowing the whereabouts of her items, prompting Shin to file a theft report with the police. Days later, on May 16, Shin discovered that her purse, containing her driver’s license, credit card, and locks for her safe, was also missing. Penn allegedly claimed that “all the items in the safe were his.”
In response to these incidents, Shin installed a deadbolt lock on her bedroom door and security cameras around the property. However, Shin alleges that Penn tampered with the security measures by applying glue to her deadbolt and placing duct tape over the cameras to obstruct their view. On one occasion, after Shin returned from a weekend trip on May 25, she found her bedroom inaccessible due to the glued lock, and her son, Reagan Penn, had to climb through a window to unlock the door, according to the report.
The situation escalated when Shin attempted to contact the police about stolen mail.
According to the police report, Shin explained, “I tried turning in several directions, and he continued to blind me with his flashlight. I then tried to grab the flashlight and remove it from my face, and then he grabbed my arms and shoved me against the 4-door gray sedan, and I felt a sharp pain in my back. I then started to scream at the top of my voice for my son, Reagan Penn, to help me.”
Penn was arrested and ordered to stay away from Shin’s home for 48 hours.
According to MMAFighting, after posting bail, Penn allegedly returned to the house in violation of the order but left quickly when Shin noticed his presence.
In her restraining order request, Shin expressed concern for her safety, stating, “I believe my son B.J. Penn is suffering from Capgras delusional syndrome,” a condition where someone believes an impostor has replaced a loved one.
“He believes I’m an impostor who has killed his family to gain control of the family assets.“In the best interest of my safety, I ask the court for a six-month restraining order and have my son ordered to get medical treatment or another source of therapy.”
Penn, 46, was released from UFC in 2019 after a horrible losing streak, which saw him lose seven fights in a row.
Hopefully, this is the tipping point of getting Penn the help that he obviously needs.
